Texas Book Festival Grant Applications Due January 27
The Texas Book Festival's public library grant application cycle is now open. Only Texas public libraries are eligible to submit applications. In the case of joint-use libraries (such as joint public-school libraries or joint public-community college libraries), the library is still eligible to apply.

The library grants will be awarded at the 2017 Texas Library Association Annual Conference in San Antonio. Applications are due January 27, 2017. Apply today!

Library Workers at the Atlanta March for Social Justice & Women
ALA invites #alamw17 attendees and Atlanta-area library workers wishing to participate in the Atlanta March for Social Justice & Women to gather in Hall A3 of the Georgia World Congress Center for poster making from 10:30am – 12:30pm on Saturday, January 21.

Houston's Central Library Plaza to be Named for Barbara Bush
Neil and Maria Bush announced a $500,000 donation from George H.W. and Barbara Bush to help renovate the Central Library plaza in downtown Houston, which will be named the Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza. More information.



New Abilene Public Library Branch Opens
The Abilene Public Library celebrated the opening of its new South Branch on November 19. Located in the Mall of Abilene, the new, state-of-the art library is four times the size of the former location. Patrons have access to private study rooms, a quiet reading area, and a designated teen room with gaming consoles, computers and teen resources. With a larger collection, and more space, the South Branch will be expanding their programs for all ages. The new branch was funded
