Broadband in Texas Libraries

TLA is gathering information to help the library community develop plans for the upcoming legislative session in 2017. One of the areas of concern to the library community is the issue of broadband connectivity. As a necessary first step in drafting any plans for potential statewide, TLA must first gather information from librarians about the type, value, and use of broadband connections in libraries.

To this end, TLA is conducting a survey on libraries' use of broadband. We understand that many librarians do not directly contract for broadband services. In order to complete the survey, a librarian may have to contact personnel in their school, city, county, or technology department. Please work with your IT colleagues as necessary to complete as much of the survey as possible.

A Printable Version is available to preview the questions and prepare your draft answers. Final responses should be inputted into the online survey.

The survey asks some 35 questions. The responses to these questions are very important. The survey will help not only TLA, but it will also provide information for you and other members of the library community to understand the availability, cost, ongoing needs, and use of broadband. Please complete this survey by April 12, 2016.

The Election Results Are In!

TLA congratulates the new members of the Executive Board, who were elected in this year's balloting process for TLA leaders. New TLA Executive Board candidates are nominated by the current board and then selected in a yearly general election by the membership held in February. The Board meets during annual conference and annual assembly; in addition, the group typically convenes in late spring and in early December.
